ISO 14001 Definition
ISO 14001 (latest version, 14001:2015) is an internationally-recognized standard that sets out the requirement for an Environmental Management Systemw (EMS).
Formerly known as BS 7750, the ISO 14001 standard that we now know was initially developed by the British Standards Institute. It became an international standard in 1996 when published with the support of the International Standards Organization (ISO).
It has since evolved through several iterations into a standard focused on demonstrating an organization’s environmental commitment to its customers and other stakeholders.
The requirements of ISO 14001 are an integral part of the EU Eco-Management and Audit Scheme (EMAS) and have expanded requirements for performance improvement (KPIs), legal compliance, and reporting duties.
